John Paul, Bill, Anthony, Michael, Sean and Craig - "Red Headed Sluts"

Winners of Gay Pride Race

June 19, 2010

What is the story behind the Team Name?

We were given the task of coming up with the best representation of our color (RED) AND wanted to make sure we utilized that for the best team name. We had a meeting, including one of us on conference call, discussing the red possibilities. What started out as some very smart ideas involving Red States and Red Twizzlers, eventually settled into Red Headed Sluts, with the added bonus that each individual in the team would choose a red headed celebrity, as their "slut" to represent. That way each team member could add a little individuality to their costume. Finally, we decided it would be witty to add a tagline on the back of our shirt, so we decided on "Giving RED since" and then the year we each came out. We figured that would tie in with Pride, and red was a cute double-entendre instead of the word HEAD.

How do you know each other?

We have all known one for or another met in a bar or club in New York City and DC. Two of the participants (Sean and Anthony) know each other from junior high school. The next longest friendship are the "Roommates" John Paul and Billy at 7 years, and Craig and Michael we picked up along the way during our fabulous adventures in New York City.Since last year's Amazing Race, Sean has actually moved to Minnesota, but he flew back to participate in the race to defend our title.

Why did you decide to do the Amazing New York Race?

It was initially John Paul, for the year's previous race, who wanted to participate and he contacted each of us to become team members, which we readily agreed. We thought it would be a fun idea to enjoy together. After having an AMAZING time the year before, made even better by WINNING by a landslide, we all were happy to come back and participate in an attempt to defend our title.

What was your favorite part?

Just the team camaraderie we all have. It is a very intense, exhausting day, but the adrenaline level is always up, and it's very exciting.

Why would you recommend it?

Absolutely! Such a blast! We'd love to go up against anyone who thinks they can challenge us...we're two-time winners, ya know!
